Chapter 9

Since my counterpart got eaten by her epic Bleach story, not that it\'s a bad thing exactly since that story is fabulous. I\'m posting the next chapter of this per Zets\' long ago request. Sorry it\'s so short, dear.

The next day, for Nagi, it got worse.

He dropped his school bag by the couch in the living room as usual and went into the kitchen to grab a snack to find Schuldig smirking at him evilly. This could not bode well for his sanity. What little there was left of it.

“Hey, Nags, guess who just got asked to chaperone your school dance?” Schuldig asked, buffing his perfectly done nails on his blouse.

“I shudder to ask,” Nagi said morosely.

“Yours truly,” Schuldig said, batting his eyelashes.

“Great. Have fun. I won’t be there. I’m going to Chas’,” he said, beating a hasty retreat out the door. No way in any level of hell was he going to that dance. He crossed the street and knocked on the door.

“Oh, hello, Nick,” Mrs. Crane said. “Chastity is upstairs. Did you come to help with her homework or ask her to a certain dance?”

He barely restrained himself from saying “not under threat of death and dismemberment” before smiling benignly at her. “Homework for the moment, Mrs. Crane. May I go upstairs, please?”

“Of course. Go right ahead, Nick.”

He climbed the stairs, managing to avoid shaking his head in front of Mrs. Crane. As he got close to Chastity’s door he found himself grabbed and dragged into the room.

“Chas, what the hell . . .”

“You have got to save me!”

“What are you talking about?”

“Mom says if I don’t go to this stupid school dance I’m grounded again until summer and can’t go to the Andersen’s party with you. You have to go with me. I’ll die of boredom or kill one of the cheerleaders and stick her mangled body on the goal post or something. Actually, that might be fun.”

“Just rearrange her neuropathways and make her think you went.”

“I can’t. I’m not strong enough to do that and have it hold yet. What I can do is only temporary rerouting.”

“Have Schuldig do it then. He’s been dieing to mess with her head for the past few weeks now. They asked him to chaperone the damn thing anyway. This should scar me for life.”

“Really? Rock on! This should be fun then. I love Schu. Think I can get him and Brad to adopt me?”

“Not on a dare.”

“So mean, Nagini,” Chastity said, flopping down on her bed. “Well, what did you think of Mil?”

Nagi thought on the nervous and paranoid young man he’d met yesterday. While he couldn’t dig into Mil’s head like Schuldig could have, he knew the signs of long term abuse. If anything it would be a relief to that boy when his parents were killed.

“I think that if we wait long enough he’ll have a meltdown and no one will have to do any assassination work at all,” Nagi said seriously.

“Hey, Moooom,” Farfarello called to Schuldig from the living room.

“What the hell do you . . . ah, scheisse!” Schuldig said, skidding to a halt inside the living room. “Well, if you keep growing like that it’ll blow the hell out of certain plans.”

“It isn’t like I have any control over it, you know,” Farf said, looking down at himself as he was now nearly bursting the seams of the clothing he was currently wearing.

“Hmmm. At least some of the fun and games could still work, providing you don’t grow much more by tomorrow night,” Schuldig said thoughtfully.

Farf frowned a little. “Why tomorrow night?”

“Oh, I thought I’d casually drop by to Mary’s dinner party and ask if she could watch you. Having conveniently “forgotten” about the fact that certain members of Weiss would be there,” Schuldig said, grinning.

What about Weiss being at the Crane’s dinner party tomorrow,” Crawford’s voice said from behind him. “How long have you known they were here and why wasn’t I informed?”

Schuldig jumped a little and turned to see the leader of Schwarz looking positively thunderous.
