Scenario 9: In a fit of bravery, Eight (Silver) protects Six (Lucas) from a bear an Ursaring.

"The only reason I needed your help is because I forgot most of my Pokemon at home!"

"Then you're a pretty terrible trainer to make such a novice mistake!"

Lucas was pretty furious.  He had only intended to take Piplup with him because it was a pretty short walk between towns, and then he'd realised he'd forgotten Piplup.  How the hell had he let himself forget Piplup!?  "Just... shut up," Lucas grumbled.  "You... it's not like you haven't forgotten before!"

"Nope!  Never have!" Silver boasted confidently, pressing his thumb against his chest.  "I'm -always- equipped with the best Pokemon, and--hey, don't you ignore me!"  Lucas had given up and was starting to walk away.  Silver wasn't about to be ignored by him, so he bounded after the other trainer.  "Where do you think you're going anyway?"

"Back to town," Lucas answered, still walking.  "I've got to get my Pokemon, if this route's going to be that much more dangerous than I thought."

"Well, fine.  I'm accompanying you," Silver huffed up, and started walking beside the other trainer, trying to look proud and strong.  He almost - almost - didn't hear Lucas' sniggering.  "What!?"

When Silver turned to look at Lucas, the other had puffed out his chest and put on a firm face... then leaned forward and flexed his muscles, trying to look macho, and growling when he did it.  Silver knew full well that he was being mocked, it didn't take a huge leap of logic to know this.

"Well... fine, you jackass!" Silver huffed, and handed Lucas the Pokeball with the freshly captured Ursaring that had just attacked him.  "Here."

That disarmed Lucas, who looked at it in surprise.  "Are you..."

"Don't get me wrong!" Silver shouted, though the fact that he couldn't meet Lucas' eyes gave a little bit away.  "If you're gonna be a jerk and not let me protect you, then you can protect your own ass!"

The Pokeball fell into Lucas' hands, and Silver had turned to stomp away when he heard Lucas' voice getting his attention.  "Thanks."

That was a phrase that Silver didn't expect to hear, especially not said so earnestly.  Heck, he didn't think anyone had said that to him before.  It took him nearly falling over to realise he'd frozen halfway through a step, and that his shock at being thanked would be extremely apparent.  He had a reputation to maintain though, and he couldn't do with anyone thanking him.  So he marched back to Lucas to stare him down.

"What'd you say?" Silver's eyes narrowed.

"Thanks.  As in, thank you." Lucas was calm, but with just the slightest hint of a cocky smirk.

"Listen, you dolt," Silver punched Lucas in the arm, a playful and light blow but his visage still looking stern.  "I'm not giving you that because I'm worried about you or anything - that Ursaring's just really weak!  I don't need weak Pokemon and I don't need weak people who'd forget their own Pokemon at home and you'd better not start getting some crazy idea in your head that you owe me or something and on that note you'd better not tell anyone that I saved your ass or start spreading some kind of ridiculous rumours because--" it was only at this point that Silver's lungs became empty and there wasn't anything else to fuel his voice.  He choked a bit of air back into himself, then leaned back away from Lucas.  "Got it?"

Lucas had a smirk on his face that Silver instinctively wanted to wipe off, so he flicked the other on the forehead again and stomped off, leaving Lucas alone.  The other had a pretty good idea what that had been about, though - and by the time he got back to town, had figured it out.

Ethan was waiting for Lucas at the Pokemon Center, with the other trainer's Pokeballs in tow.

"You forgot something," Ethan teased, waving a small bag around.  Lucas snatched it from the other, and in return, gave Ethan the Pokeball he'd just received.  "Ooh, hey, a present!"

"Give it back to your boyfriend sometime," Lucas chuckled, watching the look of surprise on Ethan's face - which changed to laughter as Lucas continued.  "And tell him that I'm not going to consider going out with him until he can grow the balls to just ask me out."
